Always held on the first Sunday in August, the Essex Shire Horse Association's heavy horse show is a day out not to be missed.

Relocated in 2021 to the Beechwood Equestrian Centre in Rettendon, the show usually includes arena displays of:

• Stunning heavy horses in hand

• Ground-shaking harness turnouts

• Beautiful decorated harness 

• Elegant ridden classes

• Quick-stepping light horses in harness

• Fast and furious dog agility 

• Countryside activities

Outside of the arena, there are refreshment stands, trade stands and demonstration areas where you can see heavy horses being shod or plaited up for a show class.
